Before, you run to your nearest Dentist to get your teeth whitened let us examine the pros and cons of teeth whitening.

It is not possible to outline the pros and cons of tooth whitening in general as each kind of method is quite different. Now first you should know the kinds of Teeth Whitening treatments available.

Here, I outline the benefits and harms of the various commonly available teeth whitening systems.

Pros

-Not a problem if you are constant gum chewer
-No associated oral or other hazards with it.
-Its very economical.

Cons

Which Tooth whitening system

-Time consuming and Tedious
-Long duration of treatment required (First signs of improvement appear around 6 weeks)
-Less effective and a difference of only a shade is seen.

Tooth Whitening tooth paste

Pros

-Requires no special effort on your part. All you got to do is brush with the given toothpaste or gel.
-No pain or irritation generally associated with tooth whitening toothpastes.
-They are priced slightly above your normal toothpaste.

Cons

-Although they seem promising, the results speak a different story. No significant results have been achieved with Tooth whitening tooth pastes.

-Many experts have claimed normal toothpastes are just as effective as these so called tooth whitening pastes.

In house teeth whitening kits Tooth Whitening Gels

Pros

-Are quite effective (Shade difference of 2-3 is seen)
-Available over-the-counter.
-No hazards associated with it except temporary discomfort and sensitivity.
-Reasonably priced when compared to In-office treatments by a Dentist.

Cons

-The ill fitting trays reduce their effectiveness.
-If the gel coming in contact with gums causes discomforting irritation and pain.
-Varied results produced by different brands on different people.

In office teeth whitening systems

Pros
-Most effective whitening systems available with shade changes of 8-10 being seen.
-Performed by a professional dentist .
-The actual procedure is painless
-Long lasting results

Cons
-Blisters, Cankers and swelling on lips.
-Teeth sensitivity for few days.
-Excessive and repeated treatments damages your teeth.
