This means that gold is mixed with other metals such as nickel, silver, and palladium. Where gold was once favored for it’s beautiful looks many modern tastes have gone towards silver so white gold represent the best of both worlds. While gold was at once a favored material for use in dentistry because of it’s ability to be shaped easily, modern emphasis on white teeth in cosmetic dentistry has done a great deal to eliminate its use.
For many people a white gold tooth is a better buy than platinum, which is more expensive but looks much the same. It is also popular to get a full set of gold teeth. These are made from impressions taken of your teeth, so that they fit your exact teeth. If they are not made and fitted by a dentist they can fit badly and irritate the gums. They also create a problem for oral hygiene because they are difficult to clean properly. The casing helps bacteria build up in the mouth and this may cause tooth decay or gum disease , which can cause bleeding gums and a receding gum line .
